A Joyful Baptism: New Life Amidst Ongoing Trials

In times of ongoing hardship, as many Ukrainians face the insecurity of living day to day, moments of spiritual renewal shine with fresh meaning. One such moment recently unfolded when St. Paul’s Church partnered once again with the International Christian Fellowship for a shared celebration of water baptism, a tradition now filled with even greater hope and significance. This year’s gathering marked the baptism of three individuals from St. Paul’s Church.

Lana, an internally displaced person, fled her home in Lysychansk, a city now under occupation. In her search for safety and belonging, she found refuge within the walls of St. Paul’s Church and, ultimately, in the embrace of God. On her baptism day, Lana wept—not from sorrow, but from overflowing joy, surrounded by a loving church family that has become a living expression of God’s compassion and care.

Lidiya came to faith through a Bible study group for widows and seniors. Her spiritual journey was not without struggle, but her resolve to follow Christ was unmistakable as she stood before the church, publicly declaring her trust in Him.

Sashko encountered Christ through the youth ministry at St. Paul’s. On the autism spectrum, he radiates a genuine love for Jesus, and his life increasingly reflects his desire to serve God. Those who know Sashko have witnessed this steady spiritual growth—an encouraging testament to God’s work through him.

The celebration brought together members of Music Mission Kiev, St. Paul’s Church, and its youth ministry. Under the leadership of Vika R., Children and Orphans Program Director at St. Paul’s Church, both young and old participated in a special time of worship. Vika was moved by the nervous anticipation and sincere dedication of those who had worked hard to prepare songs for the service, and even more so by the heartfelt emotion with which the numbers were performed.

The entire day was filled with prayers, songs, hugs, and thoughtful gifts. Friends and families surrounded the baptized with warmth and love. Sashko expressed it best in his own words: “Dear friends, thank you for your greetings and support. For the gift. For sharing my joy. Hugs to everyone! Thank you for the beautiful flowers—these are the first flowers I’ve ever received in my life!”

Hearing each baptismal candidate answer with a confident “Yes” to Pastor Ruslan’s question - “Do you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?” - served as a formidable reminder of God's enduring faithfulness. God continues to move hearts, rebuild lives, and draw people to Himself. For that, we give Him all the glory.
