An Unforgettable Youth Camp Experience at St. Paul’s Church
Thanks to the vision and dedication of youth leaders Vika R. and Pastor Ruslan M., in partnership with Music Mission Kiev, St. Paul’s Church hosted an extraordinary summer camp that was anything but ordinary. If you’re ever searching for the meaning of “unique,” just take a look at the youth ministry at St. Paul’s Church—it’s a beautiful example of what it means to create something truly one-of-kind.
Over the course of several unforgettable days, nearly 40 people came together. Youth and teens, young adults with disabilities, mothers of children with special needs, and dedicated volunteers. Some arrived in need of support, others came ready to offer it, but all came with the same purpose: to belong. Through team challenges, games, worship, and evening campfire gatherings, a multifaceted sense of unity and acceptance blossomed.
Irina D., the camp’s program director, crafted activities that fostered meaningful connection. Icebreakers like the game “Intuition” - where participants guessed each other’s identities based on fun facts, along with the beloved “Secret Friend” game and a nightly handwritten-note delivery service, helped create a warm, welcoming atmosphere filled with laughter and openness.
One of the most touching parts of the camp was seeing the mothers of children with special needs find moments of peace and happiness. Whether they were quietly relaxing by the river, sharing heartfelt conversations, or diving into group games and competitions, they were embraced as part of the community. For a few precious days, age, ability, and background faded away, replaced by love, acceptance, and shared humanity.
Of course, the shadow of war was ever-present. Loud nighttime explosions frightened some campers, and during one particularly intense airstrike, part of the group had to take shelter. During the camp’s “Talent Show,” some youth even demonstrated their knowledge of tactical first-aid—skills sadly necessary in today’s Ukraine. And yet, through it all, the camp radiated God’s joy, love, and presence. It could be seen in every smile, every encouraging word, every song sung by the fire, every spontaneous dance. It was a celebration of what it means to be seen, to be accepted, and to be loved just as you are.
On behalf of everyone who participated, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all who made this camp possible—through your prayers, your time, and your generosity. While everyday challenges remain, this week remains in the hearts of all who attended as a lasting memory and a powerful reminder of hope.
