Hope in the Midst of Grief: A Call to Pray for Ukraine
I haven’t written recently about the grim realities of the war in Ukraine. That’s not because the suffering has lessened—it hasn’t. In fact, it has grown more intense. But in the midst of this, we’ve been eager to share the powerful ways God continues to open doors for ministry. He has enabled us to serve many people in desperate need in and around Kyiv.
Still, as we pass 1,210 days of war, there seems to be no sign of peace or a ceasefire in sight.
This past Monday, Kyiv endured yet another horrific wave of missile attacks. Explosions rocked the city for nine hours, sending families once again into underground shelters. Churches prayed in the dark. First responders raced to collapsing buildings.
One single strike on a residential apartment building claimed 28 lives and injured more than 130 others. Among the hardest images was a mother and father, standing outside the rubble, waiting for word of their missing son. Hours later, it was confirmed: he had died in the collapse.
We are deeply grateful to report that our Music Mission Kiev team is safe, though many of them live in districts where these strikes are becoming heartbreakingly frequent. The emotional and spiritual weight of these relentless attacks is heavy. People are weary—many haven’t slept through the night in weeks.
There is no “getting used to” life under constant threat. The sirens still provoke fear. The destruction still brings sorrow. And yet—hope still rises.
In this darkness, our mission continues.
At Music Mission Kiev, we serve, worship, and carry the love of Christ to those in suffering. Our team sings through the grief, prays with the wounded, delivers aid to the displaced, and cares for widows, orphans, and broken families. Every act of love is a defiant answer to violence.
Today, I’m asking you to stand with us—perhaps more than ever before.
It’s easy to grow weary of the headlines. Easy to feel helpless. But I want to encourage you: your prayers matter. They are a lifeline. Scripture reminds us in 2 Chronicles 7 and Jeremiah 29 that when we humble ourselves and call on the Lord, He hears us.
Please continue to:
Pray for protection over our team and the vulnerable communities we serve.
Intercede for peace, asking God to bring an end to this war.
Support our mission, as we bring both practical help and eternal hope in the darkest of times.
Let us not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). This battle is great, but our God is greater, and the hope we have in Him does not disappoint.
Thank you for walking this road with us in faith, prayer, and compassion.
With deep gratitude,
Greg Kannon | CEO
