A Miracle in the Making

It was a miracle that 13-year-old Vitaly could attend one of our summer orphan camps.

It took the courage to leave his village for the first time and his mother's willingness to give up his help in the fields.

Vitaly's life has been difficult. His father abandoned the family early on, leaving his mother to raise Vitaly and his sister. While she worked hard to feed and care for her children, she reached the point where she could no longer provide for them. She sent Vitaly to an orphanage where he could learn and eat better food. He lives at the orphanage Monday through Friday each week and comes home on weekends to be with his family.

Vitaly's time at Music Mission Kiev's (MMK) summer camp was a welcome respite. He played games, made new friends, and heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Vitaly at MMK's summer Bible camp

On one of the first days, Bible camp leaders received a call. Vitaly's mother, bitten by a poisonous snake while working in the fields, was in intensive care and doctors were not sure if she would survive.

Campers and staff gathered to pray for Vitaly's mother. After one day in intensive care, she was moved to a regular hospital room, and the next day was released. Vitaly experienced the power of prayer and Christian community. MMK staff mobilized to help with her hospital expenses.

At the end of this Bible camp, a majority of children and young people attending made decisions to follow Christ, including Vitaly!

Will you pray with us?

  • Pray their relationship with Jesus will grow each day.

  • Pray they will continue to rely on Him and Him alone, even in the midst of difficult situations.

  • Pray that God will continue to provide for Vitaly, his mother, and his sister.

  • Pray that Vitaly will continue to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18).

  • Pray that God will continue to work through MMK's summer camp ministry, as we are already planning for summer 2018.
