New Orphan Ministry

Natasha and two of the participants of the Widow’s Helping Hands Mission trip first visited Orphanage #22 in October, 2009. They were welcomed by the Director and his staff, and were given a tour of the facilities. This orphanage has 170 children, and no outside assistance other than the government. They said their doors were open for any assistance or involvement that MMK wanted to give them.

Several weeks later Roger, Diane, Matt, Natasha, and Katya (one of our Grace Gang orphans) visited the orphanage, which is in the Obolon section of the city, north of the center. They have a Christian Ethics class in the orphanage, and they know the benefit of Christian values. Roger gave the Director and the teachers CD’s of the KSOC, and invited them to the next concert on November 30th, with free tickets available.

Forty-five teachers from Orphanage #22 were in the audience at the November 30th concert. They presented Roger with flowers and were so grateful for the free tickets.

Several of the MMK staff, along with the Children’s Music Club led by Katya Vikulkina went to the orphanage December 17th to help celebrate the Ukrainian children’s holiday. The children’s choir performed a concert, and then in turn the children of the orphanage put on a program for us. It was fantastic!

We brought with us bags of socks and scarves, as well as chocolates that were donated by the Korona (Kraft) Chocolate Factory in Kiev. We also took craft supplies for drawing pictures. The children were so very happy to receive these gifts.

The children aged 15 and older were invited to attend our church with their teachers on Sunday. The orphans ages 15-17 are able to come out of the orphanage with supervision. We plan on developing a Bible study for them at the apartment, and social activities, so that they will know that when they graduate there is a safe and wholesome place to come, a compass in a confusing and chaotic world.

Raisa, our Bible teacher from Christian Children’s Clubs and St. Paul’s Sunday School, will be assisting in teacher material associated with the already established Christian Ethics class.

We are so grateful to God for this wonderful opportunity to help these orphans right here in Kiev.
