Mission Statement:
The purpose of Music Mission Kiev is to bring the sacred masterpieces of classical music to the country of Ukraine proclaiming the Gospel to and through Ukrainian musicians to the world--and ministering to the emerging Christian community in Ukraine through evangelism, discipleship, and humanitarian outreach to widows and orphans.

Vision Statement:
Our Vision is to reach the people of former Soviet Union beyond the borders of Ukraine, to disciple new believers, and prepare those who are called to be missionaries/Christian leaders throughout Eastern Europe.

Brief History:
Music Mission Kiev began in 1995 when Roger and Diane McMurrin decided to form their own unique mission in Ukraine. Having lived already in Kiev for two years, and having formed the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, they saw the needs of Ukraine and how music played an important part in people’s lives. Musicians who were atheists and agnostics became warm to the Gospel, and many were coming to Christ. In fact, in their first worship service in 1994, one hundred musicians stood to receive Christ as Savior. This began the establishment of the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is still involved in our ministry today. These professional musicians have toured the US nine times since 1996 in forty-one States.

In 1995, MMK began a ministry to widows, in which this small congregation of 60 musicians began taking food packets to 20 impoverished widows without family support who had never heard the Gospel. The number grew over the years, and today we provide a packet of food for over 300 widows or pensioners each week. Because we take physical and spiritual food, we have seen 250 come to faith in Christ,  200 joined the church, and 150 trained as evangelists, participating in the weekly Heart to Heart (Evangelism Explosion) program.

In 1997, MMK began taking orphans from an orphanage in Kiev into the homes of church members, for weekend foster care. This program grew slowly, and at one point we had 25 children on the list who came to church and Sunday School, and who have a family to call “papa and mama” if only for a short time each week.

In 2000, MMK responded to an “open door” to teach the Bible in the public schools of Kiev, and we began the Christian Children’s Clubs with Christian teachers. They are already professional teachers in the schools and teach after-school classes for their students in Bible, Art, Choir, Dance, and English. We have 1300 children participating in four schools and one orphanage, and we have an opportunity to add more schools, and at present one more orphanage.

In 2001, Matthew McMurrin (Roger and Diane's youngest son), who moved with Roger and Diane to Kiev in 1993, started the Kyiv Youth Orchestra and Chorus (KYOC). The KYOC toured the Eastern United States in 2003 and returned in 2005 for a second tour. This group of young musicians from the ages of 17 to 26 perform in Kiev, and exposes our music ministry to a much younger audience.

In 2004, the McMurrins started the Orphan Rescue Ministry to help older orphan teens, who have been released from the orphanage and are in another government facility such as a trade school. This is a time for these young men and women to make good decisions about their futures. MMK provides Bibles studies, fellowship groups, career counseling, medical assistance, and working opportunities as well as humanitarian aid for these forgotten members of society for whom there is little attention and assistance.

The purpose of Music Mission Kiev is to bring the sacred masterpieces of classical music to the country of Ukraine, proclaiming the Gospel to and through Ukrainian musicians to the world. That “world” includes our evangelical outreach to the widows, orphans, school children, and general public of Ukraine, as well as internationally to America, and now the nearby countries of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. God is opening the doors to take our music to these foreign cultures that have yet to experience the transforming joy of works like Handel’s Messiah, performed in the Russian language, and other great masterpieces which proclaim Jesus Christ.

It would be our joy to have you partner with us, in these exciting ministries. Never before have we had such opportunities for the free expression of our Christian faith. For decades Ukraine was under the iron fist of the Soviets, and music about Christ and His Kingdom were forbidden. Bibles were unavailable, baptisms were done at night in secret, and Christianity was severely restricted. But today, we have the opportunity to bring the Gospel to many hungry souls. God has richly blessed our efforts for the last twelve years.

The fruit of this ministry is changed lives, nourished by the Word of God and the Love of Christ and surrounded by the Splendor of His Music.
